Volunteer
Volunteers play an important part in our organisation and are at the
heart of everything we do. We have a range of roles available, from
administration to furniture repairs and stock deliveries.
The roles we offer are adaptable to fit in with an individuals skills, interests and
circumstances and designed to help you gain experience, make new friends
and build confidence in the abilities you have. So if you're looking for
a more 'hands-on' way of tackling green issues then volunteering with us
is for you.

Roles available
Administration
Volunteering as an administrator would entail some basic bookkeeping, helping to keep our databases up-dated, mailing and reception work. You will also be helping to liaise with other organisations and be performing any filing and up-dating of paperwork that is required. This role will be based either in our Emporium Office or in the Head Office by the Verdant Works Jute Museum.
Environmental Campaigning
As a campaigner you will be liaising with other environmental groups, working with transition towns, helping to organise stalls and events, putting together information packs on different environmental issues and researching the latest policies, issues and studies relating to the ethos of CRAIC and TFCR. You will also be helping with the lobbying of the local council and Government on environmental issues.
Media & Publicity
This role will entail helping to develop our promotion strategy for TFCR and CRAIC, publicising our values and the services we provide. You will be helping to organise events and stalls, designing and producing advertising material, organising information packs about relevant environmental issues and ensuring that all information we publish is accurate and 'user-friendly'.
Retail Assistant
As a retail assistant you would be playing an important role in ensuring that shopping at Tayside Recyclers in an enjoyable experience by helping to lay out all the stock in a user-friendly manner, facing-up and tidying up at the end of everyday, looking after customers in a friendly and appropriate manner and helping with any telephone or online enquiries.
Van Assistant
As a van assistant you will be helping to ensure that the delivery and collection of items to and from customers runs as smoothly as possible. This will entail lifting and moving items ready for delivery or collection, ensuring that they are properly stored in the van during transit, helping with directions in the van and being the friendly face of TFCR outside of our Emporium.
Stock Assistant
As a stock assistant you will be playing an important role in helping to ensure the smooth movement of stock between the maintenance, sales and storage areas. This will involve the lifting and moving of items (some of which may be quite large and heavy), the organising of storage points, ensuring walkways and safety points are kept clear, and that the stock is stored in such a manner to ensure that it is kept in good condition. The variety of items found at Tayside Recyclers ensures that no two days are the same in this role.
Furniture Repairer
As a furniture repairer you will be playing an important role in ensuring that a number of items that would otherwise be thrown away will instead be sent to the Emporium, This would entail you checking through the donated stock we receive, noting down and doing any repairs that are necessary and finding alternatives for items that can no longer be used as they were first designed to be used. The variety of stock we receive means that a volunteer could be doing activities ranging from woodwork to varnishing and painting. You would also be advertising the ideal that a bit of work on an object can make it 'as good as new'.
Cleaner
As a cleaner you will be playing an important role in ensuring that the premises are kept clean and inviting for all those who use them. Some of the areas you will be looking after are the employees and volunteers' break room, the wash room facilities and Tayside Recyclers' sale areas. You could also help us test a variety of different eco-cleaning products to decide which items work.
Database Coordinator
Volunteering as a database co-ordinator will entail transferring information from the hard-copies to the relevant databases, filing away the hard copies, and ensuring that the appropriate information is converted into weights or CO2. The volunteer will be able to choose which database they work on and, in some cases, will be able to work on the information from home.
Researcher
As a Researcher your role will entail looking into new ideas on sustainable living, helping to update any old information that is contained in our library, looking at new Government policies that may have environmental consequences and helping us to put together information about the effect our work is having on the planet. What area that the Researcher will look into will depend entirely on the volunteers own abilities and interests.
Stock Cleaner
As a cleaner you would be playing an important role in ensuring that all items, from white goods to kitchen tables, sent to the emporium are of a high standard. Here you will be able to get the opportunity to take something discarded and give it a new lease of life proving that a bit of work on an object can make it 'as good as new'.
Painter/Decorator
Volunteering in the emporium, helping with the repairs of items that we receive before the are moved into the emporium.
Resource and Librarian Assistant
Helping to establish and organise our information library. This would include cataloguing the items, organising them into a user friendly format and ensuring the information in them is up to date and accurate.
